The company has 200 years of experience developing high-performance scientific instruments and analytical solutions for life sciences, material sciences, water, energy and other applications. Its business was jump started by the production of it’s very first product, a wooden-cased pH meter, which over the years gave genesis to a robust line of water analysis products.
A select number of the company’s employees give talks at schools demonstrating scientific phenomenon, such as how plants and animals use their senses to interpret the world. The thought is that some of the students at the talks may go on later in life to work with analytic technology.
Difficulty
The company sought to solve quality challenges by doing SPC on its manufacturing processes. Its hope was the realization of quality improvements and the improvement of team understanding across vendors.
Solution
The company installed WinSPC real-time statistical process control software to connect with existing data collection systems, and in turn provide quality insights, in the form of process analytics.
Strategy
The company first launched its SPC project. During that launch, a team consisting of a WinSPC specialist and few company engineers, worked together to establish a digital collection with the company’s data collection systems. The team’s setup was successful, and ultimately allowed engineers to view current spectrometer production information in the form of analytical charts and dashboards.
With WinSPC now installed in a live production environment, the company integrated WinSPC’s tags feature to distinguish sub-assembly data from final product data, thus allowing for analytical filtering.
To ensure lasting value from the launch, the company’s team underwent the standard WinSPC training course.
